152: Hot WetsJanuary 3, 2017 by Cigars and Sea Stories | Be the first to comment »
On this episode of Cigars and Sea Stories, Mike and Bennett are reminiscing over some hot wets. Hot beverages in the field or on the rifle range during miserable freezing weather. Hot wets usually only come out when the snow is flying. They are not your typical downrange luxury item. Coffee, broth — hot water. An agreed favorite is the hot broth, usually chicken. That stuff always goes quick and understandably so. Next is the coffee. The condiments are always a mess. Sorry for the poor few who cannot stomach black chow hall coffee. Last to go is the hot water.
If you are anything like Mike, you’re keeping Starbucks instant coffee near by. Quick, simple, tasty; maybe some powdered creamer. Others prefer tea while down range. Whatever your flavor, it’s no argument that hot wets are a serious spirit lifter. Bennett served with 10th Mountain, up in New York. The weather up there is insane. Field ops spent in the snow. Soldiers have a serious risk of freezing to death. Having a hot beverage can make a world of difference for improving morale under those conditions.
