Ammon Lang of Onward Expedition joins Mike for some Cigars and Sea Stories. Mike and Ammon served together in 1st 5th Marines 2010-2011. They trained with the Police Advisor Team as a whole before being broken down into smaller elements. When deployed, they dispersed throughout the entire battalion area of operation. Ammon and 3 other Marines lived with 50 Afghan Police near Alpha company’s patrol base. A perimeter of Hesco barriers made the cubicle style walls, which were the only thing between them, the Afghans, and incoming indirect fire. The space also functioned as the command operations center, ammo supply point, and berthing area. That’s some crazy sh!t. He shares some hair-raising sea stories and tales of misadventures in Sangin.

Before joining 1/5, Ammon served in the Army. While attending school with Marines, he knew he had to join the Corps. The transition wasn’t easy. He had to go back through bootcamp and the school of infantry then to military police school. He spent time as a provost marshall officer before rotating to a field MP unit. They were constantly deploying to different AOs throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. His turn came up and it was off to 1/5 to the land of the grunts. Infantry and MPs are?.different to say the least. Mike and Ammon joke about the differences between the MOSs and the branches of service while exchanging stories of war and shenanigans.
