Carlos Garcia is a U.S. Army veteran. He served with the 47th Combat Support Hospital out of Ft. Lewis, WA from 2003 – 2007, deploying to Iraq from 2005 – 2006. Currently, he is working as the program coordinator for “Veterans Behavioral Health Initiative” with Mental Health America of Greater Houston. He volunteers and mentors veterans in the community and, educates, the community at large, in Military Cultural Competency. The goal is a veteran community which, collaborates to bring resources and opportunities to veterans who need it. Carlos is forming a nonprofit called “Cigar Night for Vets”, something he plans to take nationally.
Tony Solomon is a decorated combat veteran of the U.S. Army. He is now the Director of Veterans Behavioral Health Initiative (VBHI) with Mental Health America of Greater Houston, having worked as a worked as a veterans advocate since 2010. Among many educational, social, physical fitness, volunteer and counseling components within VBHI, Solomon leads the Harris County Veterans’ Treatment Courts mentoring and wellness program and oversees statewide veterans behavioral health outreach and training. Tony directs the Houston chapter of Texas’ Military Veteran Peer Network which, has been awarded the 2015 Texas Governor’s Volunteer Award for Service to Veterans. Previously, he served as executive director for the Lone Star Veterans Association, Texas’ largest OEF/OIF veterans service organization.
